Month: February 2009

My little funny face

Here’s a layout of my daughter.  The photo was taken nearly 4 years ago.  With my youngest, Luke close to his first birthday I was browsing through photos of my kids at approximately the same age.  I stumbled across this pic and decided to scrap it because I thought the colours in the photo would work nicely with the Bali Breeze Designer Series Paper. Rose Red Double stitched ribbon and the Flower Fusion (Felt Flowers) from the Summer Mini.  All products on this page are Stampin’ Up! I have also made use of Kraft Cardstock (p 133), the pockets and pieces kraft Die- Cuts (p133), Onboard lots of letters (coated in ink p 140), circle rhinestones (p145) plus a couple of buttons and the “Lovely Labels” stamp set.

Don’t forget…….

Popping in quickly to show the Valentine’s Day Pouch I promised. The colours I selected for this project are rose red and chocolate chip.  They are two of my favourite Stampin’ Up! colours and I think they look divine together.   The pouch could be filled with chocolates, a voucher or just a love letter 😉  The stamp is from “A Happy Heart” (from the Summer Mini) and the patterned paper is from the rose red prints.

Here you can see how I have used a circle punch to punch a semi-circle into the opening to make it easier to open

Here is a quick card I whipped up for one of the Education Assistant’s in Erin and Adam’s Pre-Primary class.  Super quick and super easy

I realise I haven’t posted a scrapbooking page in a while.  Despite the best of intentions, I haven’t had time for a lot of scrapbooking lately and the pages I have managed to complete have been for the Journalling 101 Course (which I can’t show on here)  I know I have one SU only page sitting here to show you that I haven’t photopgraphed yet.  I promise I will set aside some time tomorrow to show you- so please pop back soon!

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!  I hope everyone enjoyed a lovely day today- regardless of whether or not you celebrate Valentine’s Day.

It would seem that my husband is a ‘hopeless romantic” ……………. no I mean that literally- he is a HOPELESS romantic. No roses! No chocolates!  He decided today would be a great day to “spoil” me with a Wii Fit!   Not the most romantic gift…….but I must admit it was quite fun! (and that is saying a LOT for someone like me who is not normally ‘into’ things like game consoles)

I should give him a little more credit though….shouldn’t I!?

– He remembered it was Valentine’s day……………….without a single reminder frpm me- (Thank goodness for all of the advertising everywhere!)

– He has listened to me griping and arrived at a solution all on his own.  He has listened when I have griped about the fact that it is difficult finding the time to get to the gym with kids and it is too hot to walk in the afternoons with daylight savings.  He has found a great solution to “finding thirty” without having large pieces of gym equipment in the house.  It goes to show he does listen when I “have a whinge” and although it wasn’t a “romantic” gift- it was definitely unique and thoughtful!

– He bought me a card- Yes it was a little ‘racey’ but he thought it was apt and at least the last line of the card didn’t read “I’m so glad you’re my husband!” (Yes one year he bought me a card that had that as it’s last line- obviously he didn’t read right to the bottom….and I’ve kept the card so I can taunt him every year!)

– He took me out for lunch today (Yes it was just a “counter meal” at a pub and we had the 4 kids in tow- but we enjoyed ourselves!)

– He remembered the bottle of red wine which I am half-way through!  I’m looking forward to finishing it when the kids are in bed!

– We really had a lovely day- as a family enjoying laughs and each other’s company- with no need for chocolates and red roses

And really……at the end of the day….. it is not about one day in the year.  It is about the everyday……….. and I couldn’t ask for a better husband or father for my children! I am so lucky to have him!

But seeing as it is Valentine’s Day- I thought I would share a little heartshaped basket made with Real Red Cardstock.  The background cardstock is stamped with Versamark using the flourish stamp from “Baroque Motifs”.  This just happens to be on the list of stamp sets where 50% of sales goes to the Bushfire appeal!   I just LOVE LOVE LOVE this versatile stamp set.  The front of the basket is stamped with the heart stamp from “A Happy Heart”  I have used black embossing powder for this lovely little heart stamp.  The basket is filled with “goodies” that are inside Stampin’ Up’s cellophane bags.  These cellophane bags come in three sizes (50 bags per package) and can be found on p 133 of the Idea Book and catalogue.

Please check back tomorrow- even though Valentine’s Day will be over I want to share another little Valentine’s Day project we created at a workshop last night.  (I forgot to photograph it and now it is too dark to get a decent photo so I will put one up tomorrow!)  Stay tuned! 🙂

I’m sorry to have been so quiet on my blog.  I think with the tragedy of the bushfires that have ravaged Victoria I have been thinking a lot about   those who have lost their lives, loved ones, homes, and livelihoods.  I’m sure we all feel a bit helpless about the disaster and making pretty cards seems so irrelevant when you consider what others are going through at this time.

I’m sure we all feel a compelling need to help and offer support to all those who are suffering.

Together, we can help provide the assistance that the survivors of this tragedy so desperately need as they work to rebuild their families and their lives.  Even the local playgroup I attend has rallied together and organised donations of items to be sent over to Victoria.

Today I was thrilled to hear that Stampin’ Up! will be joining the cause.  Join us in this effort by supporting the Bushfire Appeal–a cause in which Stampin’ Up! will donate 50 percent of the retail value of sales from a select group of ten stamp sets to the Australia Red Cross Victorian Bushfires 2009 Appeal.

Here are the details:

From 12 February through 31 March 2009, Stampin’ Up! will donate 50 percent of the retail value of all sales from a select group of 10 stamp sets to the Australian Red Cross Victorian Bushfires 2009 Appeal.

I used the Afternoon Tea Designer Series Paper, chocolate chip cardstock and scallop edge punch to create a gift for one of my recent Hostesses- just one of those additional ‘perks’ of hosting a workshop- and I love giving gifts so it is my pleasure to be able to do this.

When I first signed up as an Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator I was initially only interested in ordering products at a discount for myself.  Knowing that the minimum I needed to spend as a hobbyist was a mere $500 every 3 months I knew this would be quite manageable.  I had no idea I would enjoy the opportunity of sharing Stampin’ Up with others so much!  It is so wonderful to meet new people who share my enthusiam for this beautiful range of products and I love the opportunity to be able to spoil my hostesses with free stamp sets and merchandise that they can select for free.  This really is so much fun!

First day back at school

It was first day back at school today after the big Summer holiday.  Jared started Year 2 and Erin and Adam commenced Pre-Primary.  It was Erin and Adam’s first full day.  Last year they attended 4 half days and this year they will attend 5 full days.  All three of them were absolutely exhausted when I collected them at 3 o’clock.  Apparently they all enjoyed themselves but I haven’t heard much about their day yet.  Hopefully they’ll have some time to recover from the day and we might hear some more about it around the dinner table.   I haven’t uploaded any photos from this morning as I don’t have my camera here with me but I don’t think I will have any good shots.  It was far too chaotic for anything nice!

It was quite surreal just having Luke at home with me- Very quiet- Very strange.  Yet….. I didn’t have a very productive day.  I think I spent most of the day was spent watching the clock and wondering what they would be doing.

I didn’t even manage a layout or a card but I have card I photographed a few days ago that I can show you.

I have another gate fold card to show you.  This card was for one of my nephews who celebrated his birthday on Friday.  For this card I made use of the extra folded area and created pockets on either side of the birthday message to slide in 20 dollar notes.  He is at the age where money seems to be the most longed for gift.  At least he will be able to buy something cool for himself!   I have used the “It’s your birthday” stamp set plus a few accents from the Crew Kids Boy Scrappin’ Kit as well as East Coast Prep patterned paper.  Oh and a few pieces of Silver Hodgepodge Hardware

After my last entry-on Australia Day- it seemed a shame that I hadn’t added anything “Aussie”.  So later in the day, I set about creating a birthday card for a friend whose daughter celebrates her birthday on Australia Day- using the colours from the Aussie Flag.  This is what I came up with……

This card is a “Gate-fold card”.  I have taken a photo at a different angle so that you can have a better idea of what I have done to achieve the fold in the centre.   This card uses the stamp set “Frames with a Flourish” (what a versatile set for cards and scrapbook pages!); “It’s your birthday” and also one of the Sale-a-bration sets- “Polka Dot Punches” This particular stamp from the set is a perfect fit for SU’s 5 petal flower punch.

While working with some bright colour combinations- I decided I would really challenge myself with a very bright colour combination for a friend who needed a bit of fun and colour to brighten her day.   Just in case you can’t work out what I was trying to achieve with this card- I have photographed it using my helpful model.  You have one guess to work out the recipient’s favourite Aussie Rules Team.

This card was made using “Friendly Flower” from the Summer mini. The centre of the flower makes use of another stamp from the “Polka Dot Punches” set only available until the end of February

With today marking the first day of February- please don’t forget that it only leaves 27 (and a bit) days left of Sale-a-bration.  Remember that for every $100 spent, you can select a FREE stamp set from the Salebration catalogue! Yep- that’s right- so spend $200 on regular merchandise and you can select TWO SALE-A-BRATIONS sets for FREE!  Check out what is available in the catalogue with the pink cover to the right.  You don’t need to attend a workshop to place an order- if you see something you like in the catalogues, please drop me a line or give me a call and I can help you with your order (anywhere within Australia)
