You know that when people start sending you messages to update your blog- that it has been too long between entries. Jared started back at school during the week and Erin and Adam returned to Kindy (4 half days per week) You would think that this might give me a bit more time to be creative but it also means that it is also back into swimming lessons, Kindermusik, dancing, therapy, playgroup and the various other activities. Busy, Busy, Busy. Erin and Adam visited the Pre-Primary area of the big school on Thursday. They will start full time school next year. It is hard to believe that my three biggest kids will all be at full time school next year- and I will just have Luke at home with me during the day……. perhaps I might even manage to squeeze in a bit more scrapbooking.
My Stampin’ Up! order arrived during the week- unfortunately in two lots. Well…not the fact that the order had to come in two boxes but the fact that the first box arrived and I opened it to discover that in only contained a small part of the order. Fortunately the the following day the second box arrived. Phew! I don’t think my Postie could understand why I was so excited. Thanks for those who placed an order- I hope the ordering process was a postive one and that you get a lot of enjoyment out of your products. I’ve added a little customer testimonials page for your lovely feedback.
Jared attended a birthday party this morning. I made a card using stamps from “Birthday Best” This just happens to be one of the stamp sets that is available for 20% off the regular price for the rest of this month. I sent Jared off to the party and realised I forgot to take a photo-so I made another one this afternoon while Luke was down for his sleep. I used my Blender pens to blend the colour on the cupcakes and then added some Dazzling Diamonds. It is hard to see in the photos- but in real life the sparkly glitter looks gorgeous. I used Dimensionals so that the cupcakes popped off the card a little more. The colours are Rose Red, Pretty in Pink and Sky Blue. On the front of the card I only wanted it to say “Happy Birthday” but the entire stamp actually reads “Happy Birthday today- Happy times all year!” No problem- I just used the rose red marker to colour the words “Happy Birthday”. Inside the card (not photographed) I used the entire stamp as a birthday message.
It is also my Dad’s Birthday today! Happy Birthday……Don’t worry I won’t reveal your age! You can continue to pretend you are only 21! It is so hard trying to buy a gift for Dad. If there is ever anything he wants he just goes and buys it for himself (usually in multiple of 3 too!)
While I was stuck for a gift idea- I figured that at least I could make a start on the card. I wanted to do some embossing on the card. In the past when I have done embossing I have used a mini oven to melt the embossing powder- which is a nuisance to pull out and it isn’t very effective (which is why I don’t do it very often) During the week my heat gun arrived from Stampin’ Up! and I was so excited that adding embossing to my scrapbook pages and cards would be so much easier. I had to chuckle to myself when Jason walked past and noticed the heat gun. He asked where it came from and I told him it was a product I had purchased for myself through Stampin’ Up! He just laughed at me when he said that he had a couple that looked just like it back at the workshop. It turns out that he uses them in his work all of the time. I laughed because it just goes to show how little I know about what he does and in addition to this I can’t help thinking of all the times I dragged out the silly mini oven and I could have borrowed one of his! Oh well- I have my own one now! I’m sure you’ll see lots of embossing from me in the future.
Anyway back to Dad’s Birthday card…..I embossed the background using clear embossing powder and a stamp from Boho Backgrounds. I have used the colours Really Rust, Creamy Caramel, Always Artichoke and So Saffron. The die cut shape in the middle is from the Round Up Simply Scrappin’ Kit. The sentiment stamp is from Party Punch (Level 1 Hostess Stamp Set) I have also used the silver hodgepodge hardware. I think it may have looked nicer in one of the other metallic finishes but I only own the silver set. (something else to add to my ever expanding wish list) The main feature of this card is the fact that it opens at the centre. When it is closed the edges meet but one side of the hodgepodge hardware isn’t attached allowing it to open at the centre. Now we couldn’t end up deciding what to get as a gift for Dad- so I ended up getting a voucher. I think I might make a little pocket inside the card to slip the voucher inside.
The only scrapbooking I managed to get done during the week was during the fortnightly session I attend at the LSS. I’m not sure I like the page too much- but I think it is just the photo more than anything else. The photo is a couple of years old- which is why there are only 3 of my 4 kids pictured. I made the tall flower embellishment using my cuttlebug…… with a hint of Stampin’ Up! Always Artichoke ribbon…. of course! In this case most of the product is non-Stampin’ Up except for some Always artichoke ribbon, ink and cardstock and the round tab punch. I like the way I can use up some of the products in my scrapbooking stash- and still manage to make use of all of my lovely Stampin’ Up products too!
I have a few more little projects in the pipeline…. Some Christmas card ideas and some scrapbooking pages I want to get done. If the juggling act works then I will have them up on the blog either tomorrow or the next day- so please check back soon!
