swallowtail For today’s card, I tried out a technique I’ve been meaning to try for ages.  It was so easy yet effective that I think I’ll be doing it over and over again.

1. Heat emboss the image into cardstock.  In this case I used the Swallowtail stamp set and black embossing powder on rich razzleberry cardstock

2. Fill a blender pen with bleach

3.  Use the blender pen to colour inside the embossed lines of the image.  For my card, I just dabbed here and there rather than colouring smoothly.

4.  Allow the bleach to dry out and remove the colour from the cardstock.

5.  Attach your image to your card.

The “Thanks” sentiment is from the sale-a-bration stamp set “Vintage Verses”- One of the items available for FREE with a $100 purchase….but only until the 22nd of March

I really enjoyed making this card.  It was one I made last year and we recreated it in a class- but I just stumbled across a photo and realised I hadn’t shared it on my blog.  The technique I used on this card is simple but effective so I decided I’d make a little video tutorial.  Firstly, here’s the card!

I used the En Francais Background stamp- Definitely one of my ‘go to stamps’ (page 129 of the Annual Catalogue)

The other main stamp featured on this card is “Postage Due” (page 108 of Annual Catalogue)

I instantly fell in love with this stamp set after seeing Shelli Gardner (Stampin’ Up! CEO and Co-founder) create a gorgeous card at Stampin’ Up! Convention.  I just love the effect you get with one stamped image.  For this card- I embossed in clear embossing powder and then sponged over the image using sponge daubers (a technique known as ’emboss resist’)  You’ll see how I’ve used this technique in my following video tutorial.  I’m thrilled to be sharing my first video Tutorial.   Please just click on the following link! Enjoy!

I’m very much looking forward to offering more classes in 2013.  I’m still trying to work out my schedule as I have to factor in my part-time work as a Teacher as well as my Kids’ activities and other commitments.  At this time of the year I am still trying to work out which days will fit in best with family life.    To help guide me in my decison-making- please feel free to complete my survey  http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/5XDGC38

In the meantime, I thought I’d share some of the fun projects class participants completed in some classes prior to Christmas last year.

In one class we focussed on making Christmas tags.  Many of the tags could be used just as they are OR could have been attached to cardstock bases and turned into traditional sized Christmas cards

We also had another fun class where participants got to make a collection of “Reindeer Poop” and/or “Rudolph’s Spare Noses”.  By all accounts those who received these fun gifts at Christmas time really loved them.

As you can see, the class participants had a lot of options to chose from (Some may say I offered too many options 😉  ) but I really do get a ‘buzz’ from class participants going home happy with what they have made! Here’s hoping YOU can make it along to come classes this year!

2012 Christmas Card

Can you believe it? – It is nearly a full month since it was Christmas but I’ve been enjoying the holiday break and time with my family.   Even the lovely lady at the local drive through liquor store noticed my absence from town.   Isn’t that nice!? 😉  I just love the flexibility of being a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator! (Enjoy an additional 25% off your Starter kit if you decide to join during sale-a-bration!)

Please forgive me that I’m now only getting around to sharing my Christmas card design for 2012 .  As much as I love Stampin’ Up! products- it those 4 adorable little faces in the picture that really ‘shine’ on this card! But….. perhaps I am a little biased!

This year I made use of the Candelight Christmas Speciality designer series paper from the Holiday Catalogue.

I just love the designs in this pack- especially the gorgeous flocked window sheet.   I made quite a few cards and still have quite a bit of this paper left over. Thank goodness the designs can be used for lots of things other than Christmas projects!

This patterned paper pack is only available for another week (along with many of the other goodies in the Holiday Mini Catalogue)  Please be sure to get in touch with me if there is anything you would like to order from that Catalogue.  Don’t forget that any orders that reach $100 will be eligible to receive freebies from the Sale-a-bration offerings.  Click on the following image to view the 19 ‘freebies’ that are available

Happy “I do” day

Today’s card is a card I made for couple who were married recently.  One of those lovely quiet Weddings where they escape to a tropical island and come back with gorgeous photos and happy memories.

STAMP SET: “Word Play”, “Netting” Background stamp

PUNCHES: Boho Blossoms Punch, Bird Builder Punch, Dotted scallop ribbon border punch

OTHER: Embossing folder- Lacy Brocade, Silver Embossing powder, Brushed silver cardstock

Popping in to share something pretty today!  The flourishes, flowers and labels were an instant attraction when I first saw the “Everything Eleanor” stamp set in the Annual Catalogue.  I thought it would be perfect for scrapbook layouts- but haven’t yet had an opportunity to use it on a scrapbook layout.  Here’s a card though!

I’m starting to get into the Christmas spirit.  I’ve not actually done a lot to prepare..but it is on my mind and I’d love to help you prepare for Christmas.  I  just love Christmas time!  I have a Christmas tag making class coming up this Saturday and I have a few spots remaining-so why not consider booking a spot for yourself and start getting organised for Christmas. I also  have another fun Christmas class for later this month but I need bookings to be made THIS WEEK!

“Reindeer Poop” and “Rudolph spare noses”

I’ve been making my little packages of reindeer poop and Rudolph spare noses for  years and they are always a huge hit with both young and old.  Come along and make some little bags of Christmas fun for the Children’s school friends, for Christmas stockings or fun Christmas surprises.   15 little bags of Christmas fun for $25 OR 30 bags for $45

WHEN? Saturday 24th November
WHERE? Address supplied when you book your spot.
TIME? 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start
COST? $25 for 15 OR $45 for 30
DETAILS? We will be making and decorating bag toppers to go on top of 15 bags of Christmas fun for $25 OR 30 bags for $45.  I fill the reindeer poop bags with maltesers and the Rudolph spare noses with jaffa lollies- however the class fee does not cover the cost of lollies.    You will also be supplied with cellophane bags however you can fill them with your own lollies in your own time.    When you book your spot can you please indicate whether you would like to make 15 or 30 bags so enough supplies are ordered to cater for all participants. Can you also please indicate whether you intend to make only Rudolph’s spares, only reindeer poop OR a combination of both so the correct coloured cardstock is ordered.

IMPORTANT- I will obviously need to order the cellophane bags and more cardstock and adhesive than is normally required for a regular cardmaking class.  As a result I will be making 2 requests.
a) EARLY RSVP is required.  Please Book your spot by Thursday 8th November
b) Payment for the class is required in advance.  You can drop off cash in person or transfer payment into my bank account.

Please RSVP by Thursday 8th November to allow enough time to source materials

While I’m feeling ‘Christmassy”, here’s a Christmas card that participants made at a class last month.

I quite like the colour combination of Midnight Muse, Baja Breeze, Whisper White and a hint of Silver Glimmer paper (gosh I love that stuff!)   They seemed the perfect colours to go with the “Snowflake Soiree” stamp set that we used in the class.

I think this stamp set is perfect if you are looking for quick but effective Christmas cards.  The intricate design of the snowflakes are really beautiful and the detail makes your card look deceivingly ‘complicated’ …..but oh so pretty!  If you’d like to order this stamp set to make your Christmas cards- please get in touch with me on 0419 947 047 or miriamthomas@westnet.com.au
